Adaptation of Ukrainian Pupils in Czech Primary Schools

This bachelor thesis focuses on the process of adaptation of Ukrainian pupils in Czech primary schools in the context of the current emergency situation caused by the war conflict in Ukraine. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the social and academic adaptation of these pupils takes place in school and what factors influence it. The theoretical part of this thesis contains information concerning the number of foreign pupils in the Czech Republic, legislation and support measures related to this situation. Among other things, the theoretical part contains terminology related to the adaptation of foreign pupils and defines the factors that influence their adaptation. The practical part of this thesis presents interesting findings on this topic, obtained on the basis of qualitative research carried out using the method of semi-structured interviews with Ukrainian pupils attending a Czech primary school.
Pupils Foreigners in Czech Language Lessons at Primary School

This thesis deals with pupils foreigners in Czech language lessons at the first stage of primary school, specifically it focuses on pupils with Ukrainian mother tongue and on pupils with Vietnamese mother tongue. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the basic facts related to the education of pupils foreigners are described, including the most frequent mistakes which Ukrainians and Vietnamese make, regardless of their age group. The practical part is processed using qualitative research, which defines the research group of Ukrainian foreign pupils and the research group of Vietnamese pupils foreigners from the first stage of several primary schools. The most common mistakes in Czech made by members of each research group are analysed through continuous observation. These errors are further compared with the literature and also in between the two groups. The approach of the teachers to these two groups of pupils foreigners is also evaluated. The bachelor thesis deals with the teaching of foreigners. It aims to characterize pupils with a different mother tongue, the possibilities of support and a specific methodology of work with these students. The thesis deals with the definition of basic concepts, i.e. the concept of migration, inclusion, and approximation of the issue of foreigners' education. It further clarifies the current view of foreigners in the Czech Republic and non-profit organizations dealing with their support. The main part of the thesis focuses on the characteristics of pupils with a different mother tongue, the legislation and the financing of their studies. The next part concerns the inclusion and definition of individual steps of support measures that allow pupils to foreigners, for example, the use of language classes or courses of the Czech language. In practical cases, the bachelor thesis describes the possibilities of the methodology of working with pupils of foreigners and points out possible shortcomings in the current system. Development, possibilities and skills of a teacher working with immigrant children in primary school

Theoretical part follow up possibilities of a teacher in self-education of students with Czech as a second language problematic as well as preparation for entry to class for students with Czech as a second language and their teachers as their mission should be to create welcoming climate in the class. I also describe the key terms in field of students with Czech as a second language in Czech Republic and Finland as well. In the practical part I prepare questionnaires for teachers with the goal to identify the level of awareness on this issue, which I deepen via subsequent interviews with selected teachers. Based on personal experience from an internship in Finland than the findings from interviews and study of available literature to prepare a workshop for teachers. I would also like to prepare a variety of examples of good practice and inspiration for teachers.
